Children with a high IQ are more likely to become vegetarian

Intelligent children may be more likely to be vegetarian as adults, suggests a University of Southampton-led study published online by the British Medical Journal today.

The study led by Dr Catharine Gale of the University's MRC Epidemiology Resource Centre looked to see why people with higher IQs appeared to be less likely to suffer from heart disease.

'We examined the records of 8179 men and women aged 30 years, whose IQ had been tested at the age of ten. Twenty years on, 366 (4.5 per cent) of participants said they were vegetarian. Of these, 9 (2.5 per cent) were vegan and 123 (33.6 per cent) stated they were vegetarian but reported eating fish or chicken,' says Dr Gale.

'Those who were vegetarian by the age of 30 had scored five IQ points above average at the age of ten. This can be partly accounted for by better education and higher occupational social class, but it remained statistically significant after adjusting for these factors.'

Honey-garlic Macaroni
Cook some macaroni
Crush/grind one block of firm tofu (1/2 pound)

Stir some vegetables (sliced carots, broccoli,...), muschrooms, onions in butter. A Wok would be a good option.
Mix everything together in the pan or wok
Add honey-garlic sauce (commercial or home made)
You can add some cheese and do it au gratin.

Tofu salad
Recipe for 5 serves

One block of tofu (400gr.)
1/2 cup celery
1/2 cup mini-carrots cubes
1/4 cup green onions
1 cup sliced sweet peppers

Add parsley, coriander, black pepper, salt.

A great sauce:
- 1 cup lemon juice
- 2 cups vegetal oil (canola or sunflower)
- 3 tablespoons tahini butter (sesame butter)
- fresh garcil, crushed/grind
- black pepper, salt

Mix to the salad and keep the salad in the fridge.

It's 3 times too much sauce, but you'll like it so much you'll want to get more !

May be prepared 1 - 2 days before serving. Mix the sauce 24 hours before serving.

Fruits and tofu/ice cream/yogurt Smoothies
Makes Recipe for two 500ml serves

1 or 2 bananas (depending the size & how you like it)
1 half of a pineapple, or a full mangoe, or some melon
1 cup strawberries or blueberries or raspberries
1 cup of Soft tofu (250gr., 1/2 pound)
1 cup of apple juice

Add parsley, coriander, black pepper, salt.

Osterize it. (Blend it all together !)

Serve immediately

Enjoy !

PS. You get half of the fruits you need in a day with half this recipe.
PS2. You may replace tofu by yogurt or ice cream if you can't stand soy beans milk that makes tofu.
PS3. There's a lot of sugar in these fruits, so you shouldn't need to add any. If you are a sugar junkie, we propose to add some honey or maple syrup.
